Foundation Day 2023
Thursday, 23 March 2023
On Sunday 5 March 2023, St Catherine's School proudly celebrated its 167th year.

In honour of this monumental occasion, students and staff gathered together on Tuesday 28 February for a special commemoratory assembly to celebrate the school's rich history and welcomed current parent, and alumni Karissa Fletcher (Bence) OG1991 as our guest speaker. Karissa spoke to our K-12 students about her time at the school and shared how St Catherine's has shaped her life beyond the school gates.

We stand proud as Australia’s oldest Anglican girls’ school, thanks to the vision of Mrs Jane Barker, wife of the second Bishop of Sydney, who wanted to provide an education for daughters of clergy which was equal to that given to boys.

And on March 5 1856 she did just that. Three girls were enrolled, as boarders, and the school was named St Catherine’s after the patron saint of scholars.

Occupation at our present site started in 1859, after the completion of the Old Stone House, now our administration offices.

We look forward to seeing the many great things our school will continue to achieve.
